Free zone or mainland in the UAE: how to decide
Choosing between a free zone and the mainland is not a question of which is “better”, but of which fits the way the business operates. Many free zones allow 100% foreign ownership, and on the mainland many activities also allow 100% foreign ownership. The decision depends on activity, clients, office, visas, hiring, regulation and commercial model.

When it applies
This applies to any company that is comparing jurisdictions or wants to know where to incorporate.
Requirements
We need to understand the activity, target clients, countries, the need to sell within the UAE, office, staff, visas, contracts and tax structure.
Timeframes
The comparison can be made before starting the application; the subsequent incorporation will depend on the jurisdiction selected.
Common mistakes
Choosing a free zone on price alone; thinking the mainland always requires a local partner; assuming a free zone automatically means 0% Corporate Tax; not analysing banking and substance.

Our recommendation is to compare the full structure, not just the cost of the licence. You will find the full service, with its form and frequently asked questions, under Company setup.
